Roy Herman Rippel was born July 27, 1917 to August and Bena Goettsch Rippel. He died Jan. 19, 2014 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, IA.
Petty Officer Rippel served with the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS Kitkun Bay during the battle of Leyte Gulf in the South Pacific. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart.
