Dear Ed. and Marie: Nov. 29, 1944
I think I've waited long enough in writing, so here goes. I promised I'd write when I was home, about a month ago and kept putting it off. We're enjoying some very nice rains up here in Washington, it keeps pouring for days and nights. I hear Iowa has had a little snow already, so just figure winter is just around the bend. I want to thank the business girls for the swell writing portfolio they sent me, it sure is swell, and I know all the boys appreciated it a lot.
We are kept quite busy up here Ed on General Details, as we're either waiting for a ship, or further assignment on some base. The Navy will decide which one we want alright, even if we'd want to spend Christmas in the States. I'm not much of a writer, Ed, but I want to wish you and all the News Readers a very Merry Christmas. We hope and pray our next one will be back home again. So long now, until later. Martin N. Punt, 19, of Maurice, has been promoted to Radioman third class, in the U.S. Naval Reserve, at the Naval Air Station, Seattle Wash., where he is on duty in the Communications Department.
Punt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil G. Punt of Maurice, has been in the Navy 14 months. Before joining, he was employed with his father on a farm. He is a graduate of the Sioux Center High School.
Naval Air Station, Seattle, where Punt is on duty, is located on the shore of Lake Washington, ten miles from the heart of the Seattle business district. The station serves as a training base for Naval Air Squadrons of the fleet, and as a major overhaul and repair base for both land planes and sea-planes. The station is also an aviation supply base for Naval air activities in the Thirteenth Naval District and Alaska and the Aleutians as well as for aircraft carriers and tenders outfitting in the district or coming in for overhaul or repairs. Naval Air Station, Seattle, is the base for Headquarters of Commander, Fleet Air, Seattle; Naval Air Bases, Thirteenth Naval District, and Naval Air Transport Service Squadron Five.

Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal G. Punt arrived home last Saturday evening and has received his discharge after two and a half years of service in the navy.
He received his boot training at Farragut, Idaho and since that time was stationed at Seattle, Wash. He will now assist his father with the work on the farm. His parents and Miss Jeane Vander Berg drove to Sioux City on Saturday evening to meet him.

Martin Punt, service number 8602905, was born September 26, 1925, at Sioux Center, Iowa, and was residing at Maurice, Iowa prior to entering the navy on March 21, 1944, at Des Moines, Iowa. He served with the NTS at Farragut, Idaho, the NAS at Seattle, Wash., and the PSC, USNB at Bremerton, Wash., and was honorably discharged on June 20, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed on June 27, 1949, for which he received $270.00.
