Pvt. Harlan Post

 

 

 

Mr. and Mrs. Abe Post, living southwest of Lovilia, near Georgetown, were notified by the War Department Saturday, that their son, Pvt. Harlan Post, 22, was killed in action in Italy, Jan. 30.  Pvt. Post entered the armed forces in February, 1943, and went overseas soon after. He had previously been reported as “missing in action.” Pvt. Post is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Byerley, east of town.

Pfc. Harlan Post Buried Here Sunday

The remains of Private First Class Harlan Post were returned here for final burial Sunday afternoon, with military honors in charge of Albia veterans organizations.  The body arrived at Albia Saturday.

Pfc. Post was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Post, and was killed in action in Italy Jan. 30, 1944, He was 22 years old at the time of his death.

Surviving are his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Robert E. Smith, Evelyn and Sandra Post; and four brothers, Kenneth, Dale, Donald, and Eugene Post.

Pfc. Post was also a grandson of Mrs. William Byerley of Lovilia and the late Mr. Byerely.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Albia Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. G. S. Bruland.  Burial was made in the Lovilia cemetery, with the Albia and Lovilia veterans organizations taking part in the graveside military honors.

Harlan N. Post was born Aug. 20, 1921 to Abraham and Lois Veda Post. He died Jan. 30, 1944 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lovilia, IA.

Pvt. Post served in World War II with the U.S. Army 7th Infantry, 3rd Division and was MIA/KIA in Italy.
