Pvt. Leslie Dane Petty, son of Alfred and Rosa Bell (Ward) Petty, was born September 3, 1906 at Woodland, Decatur County, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 17, 1943 at Camp Dodge, and served with Company C, 119th Infantry, 30th Infantry Division.
Pvt. Petty was killed in action October 16, 1944 in Germany.
Pvt. Petty's body was returned to the United States in 1948 and he was re-interred at Shields Cemetery, Decatur County, Iowa.
