Arthur Maxwell “Art” Petersen was born Nov. 24, 1919 to Maxwell P. and Karen Petersen. He died Oct. 8, 2012 and is buried in Elmwood Saint Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, IA.
Arthur served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps’s 365th Bomb Squadron and his unit participated in D-Day. Just before the landing at Normandy each sailor, soldier and airman who was to take part received a copy of a letter from General Eisenhower, which mentions how the Allied air offensive reduced the German's strength. He still has his letter.
