Donald Robert Peacock was born Oct. 19, 1922 to James Leonard and Emma Catherine Backus Peacock. He died Dec. 24, 1944 and is buried in Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Cambridgeshire, England.
Sgt. Peacock served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 750th Bomb Squadron, 457th Bomb Group (H) in World War II. He was KIA on a flight from England to Germany when his plane, #43-38819, failed to get airborne on take-off because of the dense fog. It crashed and burst into flames with a full load of bombs and aviation fuel. Sgt. Peacock was the sole crew member killed in the crash. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Members of the 457th Bomb Group of the U.S. Army Air Force, who were stationed at Glatton Airfield near All Saints Church, Conington, Huntingdonshire District, Cambridgeshire, England, are memorialized at All Saints Churchyard.
