Roy Payne

Navy Man Home for First Time in Over 4 Years

Home for the first time in four and a half years, Aviation Chief Ordnanceman Roy Payne now has eight years of experience in the navy to his credit.

Returning after 11 months in French Morocco, he will report to Florida for duty after his 30-day leave being spent in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Payne, 2609 Myrtle Street.

He received his basic training at San Diego and was a member of the north Atlantic patrol stationed in Newfoundland before the war. In 1941 he was transferred to Iceland and was stationed there until the fall of 1942 when he participated in the invasion of Africa.

Although he says it’s nice to be home, he is a confirmed navy man and hopes to complete 20 years of service.

A brother, Clifford Payne, is chief commissary steward on a destroyer somewhere in the Pacific.
