Lester Joseph Pavel was born Sept. 29, 1920 to Joseph and Margaret Krob Pavel. He died June 6, 1944 and is memorialized at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France and has a cenotaph at Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery, Solon, IA.
Lt. Pavel served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force 862nd Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy. Lt. Pavel was the co-pilot of the B-24 Liberator Bomber #42-97489. He was MIA/KIA/FOD and was awarded the Air Corps Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Purple Heart.
