A BANCROFT MOTHER GIVES SIX SONS
Is there any other mother in these United States who has given more to her country than has Mrs. Anna Nurre, Bancroft, whose six sons are today in the armed forces of Uncle Sam? Six sons joined up, two with the navy, two with the army air corps, one with the navy air corps, and one with the coast guard. Truly a record unequalled in this country, the state and perhaps the nation. All honor in this fine Kossuth county mother and her six boys, and what a fine credit to the community in which these boys were raised and lived, Bancroft. We print herewith the record of the six Nurre boys, the cuts and material furnished by courtesy of the Bancroft Register.
Philip Nurre, the second of the Nurre brothers to enter the service, chose the U. S. Coast Guard, when he enlisted in September, 1941. He received his training at Port Townsend, Washington, and has been serving in the far north Pacific waters ever since. His present base is Ketchikan, Alaska.
Philip was born near Bancroft, June 24, 1920. He spent his entire life in this locality, attended St. John’s school and he was graduated with the class of 1938. His present rating is M.O.M.M. 2-c.

Philip Edward Nurre was born June 24, 1920 to Joseph John and Anna Margaret Lenz Nurre. He died Jan. 26, 2004 and is buried in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Coe Elum, WA.
Philip served with the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II.
