BRONZE STAR
Cpl. Orville D. Nixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A Nixon of Williams, has been awarded the bronze star medal for heroic achievement in action, Oct. 23, 1944, near Livergnano, Italy. The citation accompanying the award states: “Displaying a high degree of courage, Corporal Nixon assisted in the evacuation of nine wounded men from a gutted building which had crashed down on them. While digging for the wounded, Corporal Nixon was subject to intense enemy artillery fire which earlier had struck a stack of dynamite near the building. In addition to the danger from shell fragments, Corporal Nixon had also to contend with burning hay set off by the dynamite explosion. Corporal Nixon’s action reflects in the fullest measure the tradition established by the American infantryman.”
Nixon’s wife and son, Dale make their home in Webster City. He entered the service from Williams in October, 1942, taking his basic training at Camp White, Ore.

Orville Deal Nixon was born Feb. 10, 1917 to Rollie Amos and Frances Petty Nixon. He died Feb. 22, 1983 in San Bernardino, CA.
Cpl. Nixon served with the U.S. Army in World War II as a gunner with the 363rd infantry regiment in the Florence-Bologna offensive in Italy. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
