LeMars, Iowa – Melvin Monke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Monke of Elkhorn Township, has been honorably discharged from the army and will assist his father with the farm work. Melvin has been serving in South America.

Melvin Frederick Monke was born Oct. 4, 1914 to Carl Heinrich and Dorothea Caroline “Dora" Kurtz Monke. He died Mar. 15, 2008 and is buried in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, IA.
