Darrell Dwight Matheny was born Jan. 27, 1922 to Elijah and Louisa Davidson Matheny. He died June 2, 1945 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was originally buried in the Okinawa 7th Division Cemetery.
Sgt. Matheny served in World War II with the U.S. Army 381st Infantry 96th Division and was KIA on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
