Letter Tells Death of Colwell Soldier
Manly—Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Miller of Manly received word of the death of their nephew, S. Sgt. Lester Marvin, killed in action in France, Sept. 2.
Sgt. Marvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marvin, of Colwell. He had been in the service for almost 3 years, and had been overseas since November, 1943.
Previously wounded, the relatives had gathered from his letters that he was back again, and according to dates, only 8 days before he lost his life.
Survived by the parents and 5 sisters, Mrs. Don Crook, and Mrs. Ivan Crook of Ionia; Mrs. George Crook of Rudd; and Mrs. Raymond Simpson and Phyllis at home, and 4 brothers, Leslie Marvin, serving in the South Pacific, and Dale, Robert and Keith at home.

Lester Francis Marvin was born Apr. 17, 1919 to Walter Lee and Pearl Miller Marvin. He died Sept. 2, 1944 and is buried in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, IA.
Sgt. Marvin served in World War II with the U.S. Army 9th Infantry and was KIA in France. He was previously WIA in France and had been back at the front only 8 days when he was killed.
