PVT. JERRY MILLER KILLED ON LEYTE
Youngest Son of Mr. and Mrs. F.F. Miller, Served as Paratrooper With 11th Airborne Division
Word was received here by Mr. and Mrs F.F. Miller that their youngest son, Pvt. Jerry J. Miller, was killed in action on Leyte, Dec. 7, 1944.
Jerry was born at Hawkeye, Iowa, Jan. 3, 1923. He was graduated from Chisholm, Minn., High School in 1941 where he was elected to national Honorary Society of Quill and Scroll. He was also active in dramatics and athletics, winning several school letters. After finishing high school, he worked for Lockeed-Vega Aircraft Corporation, Burbank, Calif., before entering the armed services as a paratrooper and with the Glider Command at Camp Polk, La.
Jerry was sent overseas in May 1944, with the Eleventh Airborne Division, first serving in New Guinea, later being moved to the Philippines with his division.
He is survived by his father and mother, his brothers and sisters, two of whom are now in the service, Lt Georgia Miller, who is with the U.S.N.R. in Washington, D.C.: and Sgt. Milan Miller, who is with the Army Air Force in Orlanado, Fla.; and a third, Dr. Jeffery Miller, who has been released from the Army to the State of Illinois for public health work.
Jerry will be remembered by his many friends and relatives as a curly haired lovable lad with an unusually sunny disposition and winsome personality.
