EUGENE E. MELLER - Obituary
Retired Lt. Col. Eugene E. Meller, 88, formerly of Webster City and a former deputy sheriff of Hamilton county, died Oct. 25 in the Friends Care Center at Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Mr. Meller had been a resident of the Fairborn, Ohio, area for the past 38 years, having retired from the Air Force in 1954 after 30 years service. He had been a realtor with Huffman Realty at Fairborn for more than 20 years.
While residing in Webster City, he served as deputy sheriff from 1933 to 1938. He later was active in the oil business, then left in 1941 with Co. E, Iowa National Guard, for service during World War II. He served as captain of the unit at one time. Mr. Meller had also been a member of Co. C, the National Guard unit that had preceded the formation of Co. E.
Survivors include his wife, the former Cleo Kidder, also a resident at the Friends Care Center; one daughter, Colleen Bates of Fairborn, and one grandson.
A funeral mass was said Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Mary, Help of Christians Catholic church with the Rev. Carl Bach officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery at Fairborn, where military rites were also held.

Eugene Edward Meller was born Jan. 19, 1894 to Edward J. and Regina Hillmeyer Meller. He died Oct. 25, 1982 and is buried in Fairfield Cemetery, Fairborn, OH.
Eugene served as Captain of Co. E, 133rd Infantry, Iowa National Guard during World War II. He also served in World War I.
