Richard McDonald, Injured on Saipan, in Seattle Hospital


Pfc. Richard E. McDonald, Marine Corps, is in a naval hospital in Seattle, because of wounds received in action at Saipan June 18, according to a notice from the war department received by his mother, Mrs. Catherine McDonald, 1020 Morningside Avenue.

The 22-year-old Marine enlisted in the service in August 1942 and was sent overseas in January 1944, where he served with the marine force in the battle for the Marshalls. He was returned to the States August 3 where he entered a naval hospital in Oakland, California and five days later was transferred to the hospital in Seattle.

Pvt. McDonald was graduated from East High School, where he was active in football. He attended Morningside College. Before he enlistment he was in business with his father, the late Ray E. McDonald, who died January 26, 1943.
