Glenn Waddell “Mac” McDole was born Feb. 6, 1921 to David M. and Dessa McDole. He died Sept. 3, 2009 and is buried in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Glenn served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and was taken POW on the island of Corregidor where he remained captive for almost three years. His experience during this time and his daring escape has been well documented in many ways, including the book “Last Man Out” by Bob Wilbanks. He received the Bronze Medal/Combat V for valor and combat heroism and devoted his life to remembering and honoring all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
