William B. “Bill” Matthess was born Nov. 7, 1922 to Burrell Otto and Ilda Marguerite Singleman Matthess. He died Mar. 9, 1945 and is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, IA.
Lt. Matthess served in World War II with the U.S. Army Ninth Infantry Division, First Army and was KIA in Germany.
Both Bob and Bill were initially buried in the Henri-Chappelle military cemetery in Belgium and returned for re-burial in Iowa City.
