Matthias Richard Mattes was born Mar. 11, 1922 to John and Clara Ridderman Mattes. He died Oct. 29, 1944 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carroll, IA.
Sgt. Mattes served with the U.S. Army 814th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Armored Division in World War II and was KIA in Holland.
