DAUGHTER HOME ON FURLOUGH -- SON IN PACIFIC
Sgt. Vivian Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Martin at 634 Van Buren, S.W., is here on her first furlough since enlisting in the WACs on Sept 1, 1943. She is stationed at Fort Jackson, S.Car., where she is a medical stenographer to the chief of general surgery.
Sgt. Martin is a graduate of Mason City high school and the junior college. She received her B.S. degree at the University of Iowa in 1941. Her basic training was taken at Fort Des Moines, where she also attended the administrative specialist school.
Her brother, Pvt. William Martin, Jr., is stationed somewhere in the southwest Pacific, where he writes, "the temperature is really terrific." Before entering the service in 1941, he was employed as postal clerk at the state house postoffice in Des Moines, where he made his home. He is a graduate of the Mason City high school. His wife lives in Des Moines.
