Earl Herman Martens was born July 26, 1912 to Emil and Malinda Marten. He died Sept. 13, 1944 and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, France. He is memorialized in Hayes Township Cemetery, Westside, IA.
Pvt. Martens served with the U.S. Army 115th Infantry, 29th Division in World War II and was KIA in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
