Graduates of East High School Meet in New Guinea
Meeting in faraway New Guinea recently was a thrilling experience of two former Sioux Cityans, William Thompson, 21, private first class, with the army air corps, and Private Gene Markland, 20, with an engineering corps. Both are graduates of East High School.
The meeting was made possible when Mrs. William H. Thompson, 2911 Correctionville Road, informed her son that Private Markland was somewhere in that vicinity. Thompson looked up his former school friend.
Private First Class Thompson said that another surprise was in store for him. Attending an Easter sunrise service, he recognized as the director of a nurses choir Leo Kucinski, formerly of the Morningside college faculty and director of the Sioux City symphony and the Monahan Post band. He did not, however, have opportunity to renew acquaintanceship with the director.
Private Markland is a son of Mrs. Amy Markland, 4122 Ridge Avenue.
