Robert William ‘Bob’ Magnuson was born July 9, 1917 to Elmer and Mae Bell Crouse Magnuson. He died Apr. 5, 2005 and is buried in Linwood Cemetery, Boone, IA.

Robert ‘Bob’ Magnuson, age 87, of the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford and formerly of Boone died April 5, 2005 of respiratory failure at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Funeral services will be Saturday April 9, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford with Rev. Jena Zirbel and Lay Ministry Assistant Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with military honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
Bob was born in Boone on July 9, 1917 the son of Elmer and Mae Belle (Crouse) Magnuson. He attended Boone and Stanhope Schools. He married Thelma Nelson on August 3, 1943 at the South Marion United Methodist Church. He served with the United States Army during World War II. Bob started farming in southern Hamilton County in 1946. He retired from the farm in 1982 and the couple moved to Boone in 1983. After farm retirement he was a corn and bean yield recorder at the West Central Co-op in Boone. He was a member of the American Legion, Hamilton County Pork Producers of which he held the office of secretary, Farm Bureau, AARP, and South Marion United Methodist Church where he served as Church Trustee and Lay Leader. He was instrumental in starting the Memorial Fund for the stained glass windows at his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers Malvin, Charles and Benjamin, a sister Mary Grabau, and 3 nephews Richard Magnuson, Charles Carroll, and LaVerne Grabau, and a great nephew Michael Mahoski. Survivors include a sister Alice Carroll and husband Earl of Edinburg, Texas; 2 brothers-in-law Clifford and Orvil Nelson both of Boone, a sister-in-law Genevieve Magnuson of Ames; many beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the Church on Saturday from 8:30 A M until service time. Memorials may be given to his church or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
