George S. Lester, 82, Webster City, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 15, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Center Cemetery. Graveside flag-folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 2 p.m. Saturday.
George Seymour Lester, son of Loyal and Maude Morgan Lester, was born Nov. 5, 1907, on a farm south of Webster City. He attended rural schools in the Webster City area, and also attended Webster City High School. He married Mable Lester Lester on Nov. 23, 1930, in Louisville, Ky. The couple resided in Reliance, S.D., and moved to Webster City in 1934. Mr. Lester worked for many years at Arrow-Acme as a welder, and also had a welding shop in his home. He retired in 1969 and continued to reside in Webster City.
He is survived by his wife Mable, Webster City; a daughter, LeVilla (Mrs. Willis) Schwartz, Boone; a son, George H. Lester, Russellville, Ark.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Ambrose, Webster City; and Luella Urich, Prescott, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Lester was a member of American Legion Post 191.
