Jean L. Laffoon, pharmacist’s mate, third class, at the naval hospital, Great Lakes, Illinois, left Monday evening after spending a two-day leave here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Laffoon, 1401 W. Third Street.

Jean L. Laffoon, pharmacist’s mate third class, who has been stationed at the naval hospital, Great Lakes, Illinois for four months, has been transferred to the naval medical school at Bethesda, Maryland near Washington, D.C. for eight weeks of special training concerning tropical diseases. From there he will be sent to the tropics with a medical unit. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Laffoon, 1401 W. Third Street.

Jean Luther Laffoon was born Aug. 1, 1922 to James Luther and Elsie Johnson Laffoon. He died Jan. 19, 1973 and has a cenotaph in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, IA.
Jean served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
