Air Force Pilot
William Korth, son of Mrs. Marie Korth, has been graduated as an army air force at Mather field, California, and now holds the rank of staff sergeant. Sergeant Korth’s earlier training was at Santa Maria, California and at Moffett field, California. He has been transferred to Camp Williams, Wisconsin, for pilot duty.
Sergeant Korth was a Journal carrier salesman at Hornick for seven years. At Hornick High School he was an outstanding basketball and baseball player.
He recently visited his mother, who lives at 900 16th Street.

Washta - The war department announced the award of a bronze oak leaf cluster to the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieut. William M. Korth, Washta. Lieut. Korth is with the Fifth air Force stationed in the southwest Pacific.

Flying Cross For Gallantry Awarded To Pilot Korth
A distinguished flying cross for gallantry to Lieut. William Korth, a transport pilot, who is stationed in New Guinea, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Marie Korth, 2138 Summit Street.
Lieut. Korth, former resident of Hornick, Iowa was an outstanding basketball and baseball player while attending High School there. For seven years he was also a Journal carrier salesman in that town. In 1940 he enlisted in the army. He was appointed an aviation cadet in 1941 and since then has received three appointments and two commissions.
Before being assigned to the New Guinea area, Lieut. Korth was based in Australia for 10 months. Previously he had received preliminary training at Santa Maria, Cal.; was graduated as an army air force pilot, with the rank of staff sergeant, at Mather field, Cal.; was assigned to pilot duty at Campo Williams, Wisconsin, and was commissioned as a flight officer at Moffet field, California.
