CASUALTY LIST INCLUDES NAME OF L. C. JONES
WASHINGTON, D. C. (AP)—Deck Engineer Lewis Clay Jones, whose brother is William D. Jones of Kamrar, Iowa, was reported by the navy Friday to be missing while serving in the merchant marine.
Jones disappeared during the period from Oct. 22 to Nov. 21, 1942, the navy said in merchant marine casualty list No. 3, which listed 305 names, including 17 dead and 288 missing.
The Navy said Friday’s list brought total merchant marine casualties for the period from Sept, 27, 1941 to Nov. 21, 1942, to a grand total of 2,901, subdivided as follows: Dead, 463, missing 2,438.
Jones was the only Iowan included in List No. 3.

Lewis Clay Jones, First Lt. U.S. Merchant Marines
Lewis Clay Jones was born Jan. 26, 1908 to Benoni and Emma Hammond Jones. He was lost at sea Sept. 24, 1942, with the sinking of the U. S. Losmar in the Indian Ocean. There is a cenotaph for him in the Cass Center Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Deck Engineer Jones was reported to be missing by the Navy while serving in the merchant marines.
