Robert T. Johnson, age 76, of Coronado, California, died February 17, 1999 in San Diego, California. Services were held Sunday, February 21, 1999 at the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coronado. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 1999 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell with Rev. Mary Cooley to officiate. Burial of his ashes will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
Robert Tyler Johnson was born November 7, 1922 in Batavia, New York to Roy Adelbert and Marian Elvira Johnson. Robert served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until he retired as a major in 1966. He was stationed in Virginia, California, Okinawa, and Japan. On June 1, 1946 Robert married LaVera June Hage at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Iowa. He taught school in Stratford and Clarion, Iowa and for 18 years in Coronado, California where he taught history, physical education and coached basketball and baseball. Robert was a member of the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter Deborah and her husband Brian Amison of Spring Valley, California, a brother Donald and his wife Helen Johnson of Batavia, New York, and his mother-in-law Anna Hage of Jewell, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVera on March 20, 1994.
