ROBERT "BOB" JOHNSON, 81, Webster City died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan and Cindi O'Brien, ministry assistant, officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service at the church.
Robert A. Johnson, son of August and Esther Lundien Johnson, was born January 6, 1921 on a farm southeast of Stanhope. He attended rural schools in that area to the 8th grade. He graduated from Stanhope Consolidated School in 1938. On April 30, 1941, he married Frances McConnell at the Methodist Parsonage in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He was employed with Standard Oil. In March of 1943, he entered the U.S. Army serving with the First Armored Division in Africa, Italy, Anzio, and later serving with the Military Police in the South Pacific. Following his discharge, he operated a bulk truck delivering petroleum products in the Webster City and Eagle Grove areas. In 1951, he started as a fourth generation farmer on the McConnell farm, south of Webster City, retiring in 1968. He developed Johnson's Timberlane Addition, south of Webster City and also started in the real estate business. Mrs. Johnson died Nov 9, 1991 and he continued to reside in Webster City.
Mr. Johnson is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David & Roseann Johnson of Macon, MO.; daughter, Linda Johnson of Stamford, CT.; grandchildren, Thad Johnson of Columbia, MO., Marc Johnson of Ithaca, NY., Ann Johnson of Missoula, MT.; Sister , LaVonne Anderson of Webster City; special friend Genevieve Steuerwald of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
His memberships include-Asbury United Methodist Church, various boards and committees of his church,former commander of the American Legion Post in Eagle Grove, Former exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Webster City, Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #191 in Webster City, Disabled American Veteran, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5794 of Webster City, 4-H leader for several years, Hamilton County ASC committee man for eight years, former Independence Township Trustee and Hamilton Hospital gift shop volunteer.
