Gail Marion Johnson was born Aug. 15, 1917 to Oscar and Ora Johnson. He died Apr. 15, 2006 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Private Johnson joined the Army Feb. 1941 and was discharged Sept. 1945. He served in Tunisia, North Africa; Naples and Foggia, Italy; Normandy on D-Day in the 27th wave on Utah beach and the European Theatre. He received the E.A.M.E. Theatre Ribbon, Three Battle Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead, Purple Heart, and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was wounded in Tunisia and France.

Gail M. Johnson, 88, Webster City, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Remigo Panlaqui officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment and Graveside Military Rites will be held at a later date at the Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.
Gail M. Johnson, son of Oscar and Ora Johnson, was born August 15, 1917, at Pilot Mound, Iowa. In 1936, the family moved to the Webster City area. He joined the U.S. Army in February of 1941, served in WW II, and was discharged in September 1945. He served in Tunisia, North Africa; Naples and Foggia, Italy; Normandy on D- Day in the 27th wave on Utah beach and the European Theatre. He received E.A.M.E. Theatre Ribbon, Three Battle Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead, Purple Heart, and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was wounded in Tunisia and France. He married Edith M. Bernmeier on September 3, 1946. They resided on a farm south of Webster City in which they farmed. He was a member of the American Legion and D.A.V. He enjoyed woodworking and operating his sawmill on his farm.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; his son Marcus and wife Linda Johnson of Webster City, IA; his daughter Leona and husband Ken McDeid of Boone, IA; two granddaughters, Michelle Johnson of Dallas, TX, and Sara and husband Cory Zorn of Williams, IA; two grandsons, Bradey McDeid of Ames, IA and Sam McDeid of Ankeny, IA; and a great grandson Rylan Zorn of Williams, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
