County Treasurer Johnson died suddenly last night
Adelbert C. (Del) Johnson, 64, veteran Hamilton county treasurer, died last evening at 6:50 p.m. at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames after having suffered a heart attack at his home in Ellsworth following his return from work yesterday afternoon at the courthouse.
Mr. Johnson was in his third term as treasurer of Hamilton county, having served in that capacity for 11 years.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with burial in Homewood cemetery with military rites. The body will lie in state at the Becker Funeral home in Jewell until noon Monday when it will be taken to the church.
Born at Jewell
Adelbert C. Johnson, son of Cyrus Adelbert and Sarah Nelson Johnson, was born Jan. 18, 1913 at Jewell. He was reared and educated in the Jewell community, later moving to Eagle Grove where he resided for five years, then moved to Webster City, living here for 16 years. For the past 18 years, he had made his home in Ellswoth.
Following his high school graduation, he was graduated from the Capitol City Commercial college in Des Moines.
He was a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and initiated the Hamilton County Veterans’ Union.
He was married Dec. 8, 1940 at Ellsworth to Laurine J. Nelson.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Terry Del Johnson of Burleston, Texas, Karen Joyce Davis of Ellsworth and Donald Ray Johnson of Muscatine; four brothers, York Johnson of Stanhope, Richrd Johnson of Marseilles, Ill., Arthur Johnson, Mobile, Ala., and Clinton Johnson of Lowland Heights, Calif.; four sisters, Joyce Allie of Des Moines, Francis Romp of Randall, Sylvia Gabrielson of Randall and Marie Vary, Rock Falls, Ill.; three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Sterling Johnson.

Sterling Martel ‘Stub’ Johnson was born Sept. 5, 1915. He died July 12, 1976 and is buried in Concord Cemetery, Garner, IA.
Pvt. Johnson served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 303rd Infantry.
