Pvt. John C. Ingram

John C. Ingram was born July 18, 1915 to Lark J. and Blanche Madison Ingram. He died May 5, 1942 and was buried in Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He may have later been reinterred in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA in 1949. There is a tombstone in Glendale for him.

Pvt. Ingram served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps Headquarters Squadron, 27th Bomb Group, Light and sailed for the Philippine Islands on Nov. 1, 1941. On Dec. 8, 1941 Japanese planes attacked U.S. military installations in the Philippines. The personnel of the 27th, including Sgt. Ingram, were formed into the 2nd Provisional Infantry Regiment and served as infantrymen on Bataan. The entire unit was taken captive and forced to endure the Bataan Death March. Of the 880 or so airmen who were taken, less than half survived captivity. Records indicate Sgt. Ingram was KIA prior to the surrender of allied forces to the Japanese. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
