A Letter From Henry Hubers Oct. 10, 1943
Dear Editor: I’m in charge of quarters tonight. So I thought I’d send a few lines to thank you for sending the paper every week. I haven’t seen another Fort Bliss address yet. But the day may come that I’ll get to see a fellow from back home. We go out in the desert just about every other week. It isn’t bad, although it does get cold at night. This past week we had a truck ride over two of the fellows. They were sleeping when the truck rode over them. As we do all black out driving. One of the fellows hurt his chest, the other broke his leg. I think I’ll get a furlough about or around the 1st of next month. I sure would like to see the folks back home again. But I do think I’d miss the army. I think I would get lonesome without my buddies around. I like the army fine. I’ve seen a lot of country in the past 8 months. And I hope to see a lot more. Thanks again for the paper, and I hope to see you all soon.

Sgt. Henry Hubers, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Hubers, entered the service January 21. Henry is doing mechanical work. He has not had a furlough yet and has been stationed in Texas since he entered the service.

Bliss, Texas where he is a mechanic in the anti-aircraft division of the army. He expects to go overseas in the near future.

Henry Hubers Writes from France Sept. 19, 1944
Hi folks: How is everything in Iowa? France is just wonderful now days. The only trouble is that it is a little noisy over here where I am at. But then I am fine, and am trying to enjoy life, the best I can. I want to thank you for the Sioux Center News, and also let you know my APO has changed, if my folks did not do it yet. It was 5262, and now it is 403.
We picked up a German motorcycle the other day. I’m still trying to get it to run. But haven’t much time to work on it. Will close for this time. Thanks again for the S. C. News. Henry Hubers

B 135th Engr. S C Bn., left for foreign service on June 27, 1944, returned on Jan. 5, 1946, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 1, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 20, 1949, for which he received $435.00.
