John Horsford Hoover was born July 6, 1916 to Jesse and Fannie Horsford Hoover. He died Oct. 24, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Petty Officer Hoover served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and became a POW in Bilibid POW Camp, Philippine Islands and was placed onboard a Japanese freighter enroute to Japan and that ship was sunk. He did not survive the sinking. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
