Ivan E. Holmes was born July 23, 1917 to Ernest Lane and Lydia Belle Day Holmes. He died Nov. 17, 1944 and is buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, KY.
Lt. Holmes served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was MIA/KIA/FOD as a member of the crew of a B-25 (Mitchell) aircraft, participating in a bombing mission to Tomba, in northeastern Italy. The formation encountered enemy anti-aircraft artillery fire and his plane received a direct hit and exploded near Tagliamento, Italy.
