Richard Erwin Hoffmann was born Feb. 9, 1921 to William C. and Laura Beatrice Tapley Hoffmann. He died Mar. 20, 1944 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 7, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and has a cenotaph in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA,
Sgt. Hoffmann served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy and was MIA and awarded the Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters.
