Wayne Delmar Hicks was born May 27, 1917 to Forrest Franklin and Lucille Jane Backus Hicks. He died Oct. 5, 1944 and is buried in Epinal American Cemetery, Dinoze, France and has a cenotaph in Jordan Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA.
Lt. Hicks served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 555th Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium and was KIA in France and awarded the Purple Heart.
