Sioux City Soldier Burned When Camp Heater Explodes
Camp Claiborne, La.—Special: Corporal Scott Haviland of Sioux City suffered third degree burns on his hands and arm recently as he was lighting a heater in his tent.
It was thought the gas was turned on without his knowledge and exploded when he struck a match. He was dismissed after treatment at the 133d medical detachment.

Home from Camp
Corp. Scott D. Haviland of Headquarters detachment, Third battalion, 133rd infantry, 34th division, at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, is home on 14-day furlough. He is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Haviland, 2038 South Cleveland Street.

Spends Furlough Here After Seven Months in A.E.F.
After seven months service with the A.E.F. in Northern Ireland, Staff Sergeant Scott D. Haviland is home on furlough, visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Haviland, 4803 Morningside Avenue.
Sergeant Haviland will leave Saturday for Camp Croft, Spartansburg, South Carolina to take officer’s training.
When he was in training at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, he several times was entertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Burkhalter at nearby Oakdale. Recently the Burkhalter's son, Staff Sergeant Daniel F. Burkhalter, was assigned to the Sioux Falls army training center and has been a guest in the Haviland home here several times.
The two soldiers met for the first time last weekend, however, after Sergeant Haviland arrived here Friday.
Sergeant Haviland’s brother, Private Lyle K. Haviland, who crossed the Atlantic with him late in February, is still in Northern Ireland.
