Otto H. Hanssen was born Dec. 23, 1914 to Arthur Eugene and Blanche Margaret Eilers Hanssen. He died Feb. 5, 1945 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy. He has a cenotaph in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, IA.
Sgt. Hanssen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. G, 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division and was MIA/KIA/FOD in Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
