Central High Grad Is Prisoner of War in Germany
Reported missing in action on August 31, Technical Sergeant John Hurlo, son of Mrs. Alexander Hurlo, 1713 23d Street, is now a prisoner of war in Germany according to a telegram received October 18, following a report made by the International Red Cross.
No word has been received from him, but the mother of the pilot of the crew has contacted the family of the different members and has discovered that with the exception of one gunner who was wounded, all members of the crew landed safely, and are being held in German territory. Sergeant Hurlo, also a gunner, previously had been decorated for the part in former raids over Germany.
A graduate of Central High School, he has been overseas since April.
Corporal Mike Hurlo, a brother, is now stationed in Sicily with the coast artillery and was a member of the first landing party sent out from North Africa.
