Francis James Huggard was born Jan. 7, 1920 to Charles Wilfred and Susie M. Cook Huggard. He died Aug. 8, 1944 in Finschhafen, New Guinea and is buried in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield, IA.
Pvt. Huggard served with the U.S. Army 3875th Quartermaster Gas Supply Co. in World War II and drowned in the Mape River in Finschhafen, New Guinea, when the small boat, in which he was a passenger, accidentally overturned in deep water. His body was not recovered for several days.
