Harold Merne ’Merne’ Hove was born July 28, 1922 to Harry and Regina Marie ‘Gina’ Tjernagel Hove. He died Jan. 1, 2015 and is buried in Mamrelund Cemetery, Randall, IA.
Merne served with the Navy Air Corps in World War II.

Harold Merne Hove, age 92, went to his heavenly home Thursday, January 1, 2015 in Fayetteville, Arkansas surrounded by family. He was born July 28, 1922 in rural Randall, Iowa, the son of Harry and Gina Tjernagel Hove.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife Dorothy, two sisters Judith Luker and Janet Borwick, and a grandson Joseph Hove.
Merne graduated from Roland, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University. He enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Air Corps during WWII. After his marriage he and his wife Dotty raised their family as he diligently farmed his land and the homestead he was raised on. Merne was an active member of the Elim Lutheran Church, Randall, Iowa. They served a stint in the Peace Corps in Honduras, traveled all over the United States, and parts of Canada, Mexico, and Central America. He also thoroughly enjoyed piloting small planes.
After retiring briefly to Ankeny, Iowa, Merne and Dotty fully retired to Arkansas where he picked up his love of the land, tending his new homestead. He enjoyed his work, walks, his pond, and being involved with his family. He dedicated himself to caring for Dotty until her death and then made two trips to Israel. He was a weather guru and loved to discuss current events, politics and the Bible.
Merne’s adventurous and unique spirit endeared him to his family and he enjoyed his kids’, nieces and nephews’, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s participation in his life.
He is survived by his sister, Esther Langland; two sons, Harlo Dennis Hove and his wife Kathryn of Solon, Iowa, and Douglas Hove and his wife Sherri of Jewell, Iowa; two daughters, Merna Yeager and her husband Randy of Greenwood, Arkansas and Lori Whitney of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Joshua and Abigail Hove, Heath (Cara) Hove, Amanda (JC) Kruse, Ross and Janessa Hove, Benji (Haley) Yeager, Nathan (Karen) Yeager, Marcy Powell, Gina (Britt) Hill, Ky Yeager, Eric (Sara) Whitney, Syniva (Will) Whitney-Courtney; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation is under the direction of Moore’s Chapel with interment at Mamrelund Cemetery, Randall Iowa.
