Howard M. Holkan, 64, lifelong Webster City resident, died suddenly Sunday morning at the Hamilton County hospital.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran church with the Rev. Thomas Mickelson officiating and with burial in Graceland Cemetery.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 191.
Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Tuesday at which time the casket will be taken to the church.
Howard Melvin Holkan, son of Randall and Emma Baker Holkan, was born May 8, 1916 at Webster City, where he was reared and educated.
He was married to Vera Ann Deimel on April 10, 1939, at Clarion.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed with the former Beam Mfg. Co. for several years, later being employed at Nissen’s until May, 1965 when he was forced to retire due to his health.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Eppard of Webster City; his son-in-law, Richard Eppard; one son, Jerald Holkan of Newton; his daughter-in-law, Cathy Holkan, two grandchildren, Susan Eppard and Chris Holkan; three step-grandchildren, Susan Eppard and Chris Holkan, three step-grandchildren, Kenny, Kristy and Kathy Miller; one brother, Harold Holkan of Kearney, Nb., an uncle, Vern Baker of Dakota City, Iowa, one aunt, Vera Hurst, Baltimore, Md., and three nieces and nephews, Mrs. Duane (Vivian) Whipple, Rollie Holkan, Jr., and Dean Holkan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Rollie Holkan. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and the American Legion Post 191 of Webster City.
