Lt. Loren Hintz surprised local friends by dropping in on them Monday afternoon. He had his wife and 4 months old daughter spent the afternoon with a group of local Woodcrafters at the E.G. Brown home. He was on his way from his former station at Carlsbad, N. Mex, to his new one at Lincoln, Nebr.

LT. LOREN HINTZ KILLED IN ITALY
New Hampton Pilot Was on 64th Mission
New Hampton -- Lt. Loren Hintz, P-47 pilot, was killed in action in Italy on April 21, according to word received by Mrs. Hintz. She previously received a telegram from the war department stating he was missing in action.
Lt. Hintz, 27, was on his 64th mission. He had been awarded the air medal, bronze battle star and the distinguished unity badge.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. George Hintz at Lakeview in 1917, Lt. Hintz was graduated from Charles City high school, attended Mason City junior college and Iowa State college. He enlisted in August 1941 and severed on year in the Pacific.
Lt. Hintz was married to Gertrude Russell in April, 1943. Besides his wife, infant son and daughter he is survived by his parents, now in Glendale, Cal., and 3 brothers.
He was a former WPA recreational director in Mason City, having appeared on the KGLO Forum on several occasions.
