Gerald Wayne Hewitt was born Nov. 9, 1923 to Hiram Isaac and Clarice Mae Stoddard Hewitt. He died July 2, 1944 and is buried in Union Cemetery, Livermore, IA.
Pvt. Hewitt served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was assigned to E Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division as an Automatic Rifleman and lost his life in operations on Saipan. He was initially buried in the 2nd Marine Division Cemetery on Saipan, Plot E, Row 12, Grave 6 and later re-interred on May 15, 1949 in Union Cemetery, Livermore, IA.
