Boyd L. Hetland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Hetland of near Williams, is taking his boot training at Farragut, Idaho. A former member of Company F, Iowa State Guard, he entered the service, May 30. His address: Boyd LeRoy Hetland, AS, Co. 642-44, Camp Ward, USNTC, Farragut, Idaho.

Boyd L. Hetland, S2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Hetland of near Williams, is attending gunner’s mate school at Camp Gilmore, Farragut, Idaho. Hetland, a former member of Co. Boyd LeRoy Hetland was born Sept. 27, 1924 to Silas B. and Beatrice E. Hoffman Hetland. He died Nov. 2, 2005 and is buried in Rose Grove Cemetery, Williams, IA.
Seaman Hetland served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Boyd. L. Hetland, 81, of Williams, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Williams, with Rev. Tom Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Grove Cemetery, southwest of Williams. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #633 of Williams. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Boyd LeRoy Hetland, son of Silas and Beatrice Hoffman Hetland, was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Lincoln Township of Hamilton county near Ellsworth. He received his education at a rural school, Ellsworth Public School and graduated from Blairsburg high school in 1942. He served with the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, in the Pacific Theatre of Action, during the invasion of Okinawa. Following his discharge, he attended the Webster City Junior College, then transferred to Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. He moved to Lake Villa, Illinois and was employed by Bell and Howell for over 20 years. In November of 1954, he married Alverna Brinkley. She had two sons, James and John, whom he adopted. They divorced in 1969. He retired in 1987 and moved back to Williams to care for his mother. After his mother’s death, he continued to reside on the family farm.
Boys is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Adrian and Jeannie Hetland of Ellsworth; Vern and Sandy Hetland of Webster City, Elyse Hetland of Downey, CA, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister, in infancy; his ex-wife and both step-sons, and brother, Daryl Hetland in 2004.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Williams, Williams American Legion Post #633, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 5724 of Webster City and the Blairsburg Lions Club.
