Harlan Ellis “Hatty” Hatfield was born Feb. 24, 1919 to Calvin Ellis and Nancy Jane Hawkins Hatfield. He died Apr. 5, 1945 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold, France and has a cenotaph in Salem Cemetery, Chariton, IA.
Pvt. Hatfield served in World War II with the U.S. Army 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division and was KIA in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
