Richard Deloss Harvey was born May 28, 1919 to James Madison and Mary Belle Gates Harvey. He died Jan. 1, 2013 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Lt. Harvey served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II flying Douglas C-47 Skytrains in the European Theatre, supplying the front lines and transporting refugees. His recollection of missions and hazardous duties, compelled him to write the book “The C-47, Flying Workhorse of WW II”.

INDIANAPOLIS - Richard D. Harvey, 93, Indianapolis, departed this life Jan. 1, 2013.
He was born May 28, 1919, in Williams, Iowa, to James and Mary Belle (Gates) Harvey. Dick proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps He flew Douglas C-47 Skytrains in the European Theatre, supplying the front lines and transporting refugees. His recollection of missions and hazardous duties, compelled him to write the book "The C-47, Flying Workhorse of WW II." Upon his discharge, he returned to Galesburg to own and operate Harvey Brothers Electric. Later, he worked for International Products and Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1984. Dick was an active and dedicated member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was also a member of The American Legion.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Marjorie E. (Jewett) Harvey; sons, Ron (Jane) Harvey and Doug (Mary) Harvey; grandchildren, Shannon (Peter) Rogers, Sarah (Bill) Spencer, Ben (Tara) Harvey and Heather Harvey; great-grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Jack and Maryn Spencer; and a host of nieces, nephews and good friends. He was preceded in death by eight siblings.
