SERVICEMEN WRITE (to Joy Hanson, Editor of the Ellsworth News)
San Diego, Calif.
March 6, 1943
Dear Joy:
Just a line to let you know everything is O.K. except my address on the Ellsworth News. It is Orlin Hanson, Maintenance Co., Marine Barracks No. 37, Camp Elliot, San Diego, Calif.
I’ve got the paper but it goes all over California before I get it; and I hate the delay.
Having lots of rain here. They call it Sunny California but it is all in liquid form now and it all goes down the sewer. Would rather have snow than so much rain.
Hope this finds you all O. K. and not freezing to death or counting the day until spring because it is soon here. So-long.
Orlin Hanson.
My home address: Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Hanson, 1833 National Ave., San Diego, Calif.

SERVICEMEN WRITE (to Joy Hanson, Editor of the Ellsworth News)
Hawaiian Islands
Dear Joy:
Just a line to let you know all is well here. Am feeling fine and living pretty good. We have a nice camp here, but it isn’t like San Diego was. Guess I was just there too long.
When I left they sure didn’t waste any time letting me get into the thick of it. We were in the Marshalls. Saw a few good days of action and it sure isn’t what they call an easy life. Our main operations were on Roi and Namur Islands, Roi being the island with the airport.
We were fortunate thruout the entire operation. Amphibian tractors sure did a good job. And it isn’t because I’m in the outfit. But they are the things for coral, the coral being what stopped them on Tarawa.
We received lots of mail when we did get it. Some even got their Christmas packages. Received seven copies of The News in one day so had reading material for a couple of days. Letters and news sure are appreciated here.
Tell all hello.
Corp. Orlin L. Hanson
