Sanborn, Iowa – Vernon C. Guse, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Guse of Sanborn, recently was promoted from first lieutenant to captain at the chemical warfare school, Edgewood arsenal, Maryland. Previous to his enlistment he had worked as a chemist for the Continental Can Company at Tampa, Florida. He was born in Sanborn and was graduated from Sanborn High School in 1930. He then attended Iowa State College and was graduated as a chemical engineer in 1934.

Vernon Christoph Guse was born May 14, 1912 to William A. and Anna Julle Guse. He died July 15, 2004 and is buried in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
Lt. Col. Guse served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
